You contribute 12% of your basic + DA every month. Your employer also puts in 12%, but splits it: 8.33% of wages up to ₹15,000 (at most ₹1,250) goes to the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), and the rest goes to your EPF account. With ₹30,000 basic, you put in ₹3,600 and your employer ₹2,350 to EPF plus ₹1,250 to EPS.
Some employers work out PF on ₹15,000 (the wage ceiling) instead of your full basic, which lowers both shares. You can choose to put in more than 12% as Voluntary PF (VPF); the employer’s share stays the same.
EPF interest rate
The rate for FY 2025-26 is 8.25%, the same as the two years before. Interest is worked out every month on your running balance and added to your account once a year. Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year is taxable.
When can I withdraw?
The full balance is paid at 58, or after two months without a job. Partial withdrawals are allowed for things like a home, education, marriage or medical treatment. When you switch jobs, transfer your PF to the new employer through your UAN rather than withdrawing — it keeps earning interest and stays tax-free after five years of service.
